Experiments with Deep Ellum Double Brown Stout

Whenever I find a new stout or porter I like to try it with many lighter top and bottom beers. Here are some nice black and tan layered beer combinations using Double Brown Stout from Deep Ellum Brewing (Dallas TX).

With Tap Room No 21 Pale Ale on top
With New Belgium Snapshot wheat beer on top
With Angry Orchard Green Apple hard cider under and New Belgium Skinny Dip over. This turned out to be a great triple layer black and tan!

Memorial Day Friday is here. Time to start the weekend and relax. Here is a variety of layered beer suggestions for weekend experimentation.

New Belgium Snapshot Wheat Beer over 1554 Black Lager - GREAT layer separation
Boddingtons Pub Ale over New Belgium 1554 Black Lager
Boddingtons Pub Ale over Shiner Premium - No dramatic color difference but it was unexpectedly good
Guinness Draft over Smith & Forge Hard Cider (Snakebite) - Guinness and cider always have good layering results and the cider to draft taste transition is nice and different
New Belgium 1554 Black Lager over Franconia Wheat
Bohemia over New Belgium Snapshot Wheat Beer - Good cloudy/clear layering but I ran out of Bohemia to fill the glass and get a really good picture

How To Find a Triple Layer Beer

I love finding triple layered Black and Tans! I picked up some New Belguim 1554 Black Lager the other day and tried some Blue Moon over it. The layering was really nice. Then I remembered that Guinness Draught layered well over Blue Moon. So, a few days later, I tried making a triple layer and it turned out great. See pictures below.
